Chevres Joins 100-Win Club With First Round Win At NCWA Nationals

MACON, GA. -- The Apprentice School Centurion Club had a new member join its ranks after day one of the 2011 National Collegiate Wrestling Association National Championships at Macon University.

Junior Marcus Chevres, the defending 133-pound national runnerup, earned the 100th victory of his career in his opening bout winning 24-6 over Matthew Dunton of South Florida.  Chevres, a Norfolk native, is now 42-9 on the year after winning his second round match on Thursday night to advance to Friday 4 pm quarterfinal round.

Junior Ricky Anderson is almost joining that 100-win club as he won his opening match at 157-pounds by fall in 69 seconds over Matt Lamb of William & Mary.  That win gave him 99 for his career, while the fall is his 40th of the season to go with a now 47-7 record. He lost his second round match and will now battle through the consolation rounds to gain a spot on the All-American stand.

Other wrestlers who broke the 100-win club for the Builders include Darrick Walker (1996-2000), Matt Perry (2006-10) and Cecil Lee (2004-08).  Chevres is the fourth, while Anderson is nearing the fifth member of the club.

Opening round winners include: Ty Ford (125), Willie Crawford (184), Jeremy Diley (285), Kyle Spruill (149).  All wrestlers are still alive as Odis Wesby (141), Kevin Gray (235), Stuart Roes (197), Anthony Damico (165) and Steven Ours (174) also wrestled Thursday night in the consolation round.

Midway through the second round on Thursday night the Builders were sitting fourth in the 77-team event.  Wrestling will begin on Friday at 9 am.
