Builders Take Electric City Duals Title Going 3-1 In Tournament

SCRANTON, PA. – For the third year in a row, the Apprentice School wrestling team took the team title in the Electric City Duals hosted by the University of Scranton on Saturday as they went 3-1 on the day.

The team title was decided by the team with the most falls in the event as Apprentice School, University of Maryland Baltimore County and Penn State DuBois each went 3-1 on the day.

The Builders opened against National Collegiate Wrestling Association Mid-Atlantic Conference rival UMBC and won 31-13.  The Builders jumped out quickly winning the first four bouts as Kyle Spruill pinned his opponent in 3:44 at 149: pounds to take a 19-0 advantage.   After UMBC won the next two, Anthony Damico scored a win by fall in 2:38 at 174 pounds to lead 25-5 before the teams alternated wins in the final bouts for the 31-13 decision.

Against Washington & Lee, Apprentice School won three of the first four bouts with a pair of decisions to lead 12-3 after 149 pounds.  The Generals scored a decision and a win by fall in the next two to tie the match 12-12.  From there, the Builders ran the table with a decision, win by fall and a pair of forfeit victories to win 33-12.

Penn State DuBois knocked off the Builders in the next match 25-21.  After Ty Ford won at 125 pounds, the Lions won the next four bouts to take command of the match.  The Builders cut the deficit to 15-10 after Damico scored another win by fall at 165 pounds in 2:26, but Penn State DuBois held on for the win.

In the final match against Scranton, after each team won in the first two bouts the Builders ran the table winning the final eight bouts for the 32-3 win. 

Freshman Justin Martz was the lone wrestler for the Builders to go 4-0 on the day as he won two by fall and two by decision.  Fellow freshman Ian Jones went 2-0 on the day winning against Penn State DuBois and Scranton by fall.

The Builders will now get ready to head south to Orlando, Florida and compete in the UCF Duals on November 18 and UCF Open on November 19.
