Wrestlers Open Virginia Duals Friday With Nassau CC

The Apprentice School wrestling team learned its first round matchup for the 33rd annual Virginia Duals Tuesday morning and they drew second-seeded Nassau Community College in an 11 am match on Friday at the Hampton Coliseum.

This marks the third time in the last four years that the Builders have opened the Virginia Duals against the Lions who are currently ranked ninth in the National Junior College Athletic Association.  Nassau had two second place finishes (2010, 2012) and a fourth place (2011) in its previous three trips to the Virginia Duals.  The Lions are the defending NJCAA National Champions.

A win on Friday morning will put the Builders in the semifinals against the winner of third-seeded Brockport and the University of Central Florida at 2 pm on Saturday.  A loss on Friday will put them against the loser of the same match on Friday at 1 pm.

Apprentice School enters the Virginia Duals with a 9-2 dual match record and finished seventh last weekend in the Waynesburg Invitational.  Sophomore Ian Jones leads the team with a 21-3 record and he finished second at heavyweight last weekend in Waynesburg.  Freshman Phillip Porto follows him with an 18-9 record after taking third at 157 pounds in the Waynesburg Invitational last weekend.
