Wrestlers Take Second At NCWA Mid-Atlantic Conference

LYNCHBURG, VA. – The Apprentice School wrestling team competed on Saturday in the National Collegiate Wrestling Association Mid-Atlantic Conference Championships at Liberty University and came in second place in the 13-team event.

Apprentice School came away with three conference champions as senior Ty Ford won the 125 pound bracket for the second year in a row.  Sophomore Dwayne Roes won at 133 pounds by a 4-2 decision in the finals to take that crown.  Fellow sophomore Ian Jones won by a 2-1 decision at heavyweight to win that weight class to give the Builders three conference champs.

The Builders had a pair of runner-ups as senior Kyle Spruill (149) and freshman Jacob Michael (125) came in second.  Sophomore Sterling Briscoe (157), freshman Phillip Porto (165), Luke Hanson (197) and senior Kevin Gray (235) came in fourth as the Builders qualified 15 wrestlers for the NCWA Nationals in Allen, Texas from March 14-16.

Liberty scored 201 points to win the event, followed by the Builders (172.5), James Madison (94) and Middle Tennessee State (93.5) to round out the top four of 13 teams.
