ALLEN, TEX. – The Apprentice School wrestling team finished its 2012-13 season on Saturday as they took ninth place out of 30 teams in the National Collegiate Wrestling Association Men's Division I National Championships at the Allen Events Center.

California Baptist won the event with McKendree University second and Liberty University coming in third place in the 30-team Division I field.  The Builders scored 65 points to edge Mercer University for tenth place.  They have now finished in the top ten in the team standings in 14 of the 15 years they've participated in the NCWA.

Sophomore Ian Jones went 2-0 on Saturday at heavyweight to earn his second NCWA All-American honor as he came in third place.  Jones had a pair of decision wins on Saturday over Ike Okoli of South Carolina (5-1) and Ethan Stanley of the U.S. Naval Prep Academy (2-1).  A naitve of Painesville, Oh., Jones had a sophomore campaign for the record books leading the team in wins with a sparkling 41-4 mark.  The winning percentage of 91.1% is the third best single-season total in school history, while after two years he now sports a 73-18 career record.

Senior Ty Ford earned his second NCWA All-American honor after a tough 0-2 day on Saturday.  He lost to Nicholas Wright of Mercer University 6-3 and then lost a tough 8-7 tiebreaker round decision to Ben Smith of Marion Military Institute to finish eighth place at 125 pounds.  Ford finished the year with an 18-8 record and for his career, the Norfolk, Va. native was 85-72.

Fellow senior Kyle Spruill went 1-1 on Saturday to earn his first NCWA All-American honor at 149 pounds by finishing in fifth place.  He opened Saturday with a tough 9-6 loss to Dan Carr of University of Maryland Baltimore County before finishing his collegiate career with a win by fall over Nick Cegelski of Southern California in 3:44.  With the win, the Williamsburg, Va. native ended his career with a 99-43 record and a 28-12 mark as a senior.  The 99 wins are the sixth most in school history.

Freshman Phillip Porto capped a solid freshman season by finishing eighth at 165 pounds to earn NCWA All-American honors.  He lost a pair of decisions on Saturday to Robert Clymer of Liberty University (12-5) and Anthony Ballinger of California Baptist University (4-3).  Porto, a Virginia Beach, Va. native,  finished the year with a 36-21 record with half of those (18) coming by fall which is the eighth best single season total.
