Apprentice School junior heavyweight Ian Jones was named on Wednesday to the first team All-State Wrestling squad by the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association. Jones earned the honor for the third consecutive year.
This marks the sixth year in a row that the Builders have had a first-team All-State selection. The wrestling team is the only team done by VaSID that combines the university division (NCAA Division I) and the college division schools.
Jones, a junior heavy metal fabricator apprentice from Painesville, OH, had another stellar season as he finished 42-9 and earned his third National Collegiate Wrestling Association (NCWA) All-American honor by finishing fourth at nationals.
He opened the season with a school-record 14 straight wins and had another streak after New Year's where he won 10 in a row and 18 of 19 matches. His 42 wins is the sixth most in a single-season in school history and topped his 41 of last season.
For his career he is third on the All-Time wins list with a 115-28 record. His 80.42% winning percentage is sixth best in school history, while his 62 wins by fall ranks second on the career list.
