Payne, White Named USCAA Players Of The Week

Women's basketball sophomore Courtney White and wrestling sophomore Thomas Payne were named on Tuesday as the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Players of the Week as announced by the national office.

White, a sophomore shipfitter apprentice from Norfolk, averaged 14.5 points per game and hit nearly 45% from the floor as the Lady Builders went 1-1.  She scored a career best 18 points in a 70-65 win over Eastern Mennonite University to snap a six-game winning streak for the Royals.

Payne, a sophomore welder apprentice from Poquoson, was 3-0 last week and was the Outstanding Wrestler at 133 pounds in the University of Maryland Baltimore County Retriever Duals on Friday night.  He scored two wins by decision and one by fall in 54 seconds to put his record at 14-2 heading into the 2015 portion of their schedule.

The Lady Builders play tonight at 5:30 pm in Ettrick, Virginia against NCAA Division II Virginia State University.  The wrestling team will start 2015 in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania in the Waynesburg Invitational.
