Builders Draw Flames In Opening Round Of Virginia Duals Friday

The Apprentice School wrestling team will open competition in the 35th annual Virginia Duals on Friday at 11am in the Hampton Coliseum against the Flames of Liberty University.  If the Builders win at 11 am, they'd be done until the 2pm semifinals on Saturday.  If they lose at 11am, they'll wrestle again at 1pm.

The Flames, who were seeded second in the eight-team American College Division bracket, finished fourth in last year's event.  They are ranked #1 in the last National Collegiate Wrestling Association (NCWA) Coaches Poll.

Apprentice School enters the event with an 11-2 dual meet record and are fourth in the latest NCWA poll.  Junior 197-pounder Josh Rodriguez leads the team with a 19-5 record after winning his bracket at the Waynesburg Invitational last weekend.  Senior heavyweight Ian Jones is right behind him with an 18-4 mark.

Defending American College Division champion UNC Pembroke is the top-seeded team this year as the Braves are currently 13th in the latest NCAA Division II Coaches Poll.

Other teams in the bracket include: University of Central Florida, Wheeling Jesuit University (WV), Anderson University (SC) and Ferrum College.
