Jones/Foxworth Advance To Quarterfinals As Builders Sit Ninth At NCWA Nationals

IN BRIEF: Ian Jones and Patrik Foxworth went 2-0 to advance to the quarterfinals after day one of the 2015 National Collegiate Wrestling Association National Championships on Thursday.

ON THE MAT

  • Jones, who was seeded third at 285 pounds, won a pair of decisions starting with a 2-0 win over John Long of Marion Military Institute.  He advanced to the quarterfinals with a 3-2 win  over Ricky Carter of Florida A&M University.  Jones, now 39-7 on the year, will face either Dylan Smith of South Puget Sound CC or Andrew Osborn of Henry Ford College to advance to the semifinals.
  • Foxworth, the fifth-seed at 165 pounds, also won a pair of decisions to advance to Friday's quarterfinal round.  He started with an 11-4 win over Cody Stanley of Henry Ford CC and then decisioned teammate Dan Henson 6-3.  Foxworth now faces Clay Kocsis of Penn State Mont Alto in the Friday morning quarterfinals.
  • Still alive in the consolation rounds are: Jacob Michael (125 lbs/1-1); Tyrell Watkins (149/1-1); Henson (165/1-1); Philip Porto (174/2-1); Josh Rodriguez (197/1-1) and Shakeem Lassiter (235/2-1).  All of them will have three matches to win to earn NCWA All-American honors.

TEAM STANDINGS
After day one, the Builders sit in 9th place out of 90 teams in the tournament with 29 points.  Liberty University leads with 52 points, followed by Rochester Technical College (MN) with 47 and Middle Tennessee State University with 42.
