Nine Wrestlers Named To NCWA All-Academic Team

Nine Wrestlers Named To NCWA All-Academic Team

The National Collegiate Wrestling Association (NCWA) announced its All-Academic team recently and out of the 107 wrestlers who made the list, nine of them were Apprentice School wrestlers.

To qualify for the All-Academic team, a wrestler must have at least a 3.25 grade point average, be at least a sophomore and have competed in their conference championship tournament.

The Builders led the association with nine members of the squad, which was more than twice the total of any other program.  Nine schools came in with four members apiece.

Earning the honor for the Builders include: Tyrell Watkins (149 lbs/Soph.), Josh Rodriguez (197/Jr.), Chris Kennedy (174/Jr.), Jacob Michael (125/Jr.), Ian Jones (285/Sr.), Philip Porto (174/Jr.), Kyle Lowry (157/Sr.); Kenny Lowry (184/Jr.) and Dan Henson (165/Soph.).

This makes the second time for Michael, Porto, Kennedy and Rodriguez, while the third year for Jones to be recognized.

In the five years that the NCWA has named an All-Academic team, this now makes 27 Builder wrestlers who have been honored for their work in the classroom.

Congratulations wrestlers.
