Jones Named College Division Men's At-Large Second Team CoSIDA Academic All-American

Apprentice School senior wrestler Ian Jones was named on Monday to the second team 2015 Capital One Academic All-America® College Division Men's At-Large squad, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

This marks the first time that an Apprentice School wrestler has earned Capital One Academic All-America® honors from CoSIDA.  He joins former baseball players Darrell Taylor (2005), current assistant coach Ben Jones (2006) and former football player Brock Bullock (2013) as CoSIDA  Academic All-America® honorees.

The Capital One Academic All-America® College Division At-Large Teams are comprised of student-athletes from NAIA, USCAA, Canadian and two-year institutions.

The at-large program for the Capital One Academic All-America® program includes the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo for both men and women; bowling, crew and field hockey for women; and volleyball and wrestling for men.

Jones, a heavy metal fabricator apprentice from Painesville, Ohio, was a four-time National Collegiate Wrestling Association All-American and the third Builder to win four NCWA All-American honors.  He finished his career with a school record 156 wins and was 41-9 as a senior while finishing fourth at nationals.

He had winning streaks this year of 12, 11 and nine in a row.  He was also a four-time Virginia Sports Information Directors Association All-State honoree making him the first four-time winner for the Builders.

Jones was earlier named to the CoSIDA College Division Men's At-Large Academic All-District team, the NCWA All-Academic squad and last week was announced as the Apprentice School 2014-15 Athlete of the Year.
