Simmons Breaks 100 Win Mark; Apprentice Goes 2-1 at Waynesburg Duals

The Builder Wrestling Squad improved their dual meet record to 4-1 Saturday, defeating NCAA D3 opponents Defiance College 30-15, and Thomas More 39-6.  Apprentice dropped the opening dual to 19th ranked Stevens Institute of Technology 37-15.

Builder Chad Simmons joined the 100 win club in his first bout of the day in dominant fashion, recording a 18-2 over Nico Ziccardi of Stevens.  Chad became only the seventh Apprentice to clear 100 wins in the history of the wrestling program.  The last Apprentice to break 100 wins was heavyweight Ian Jones in 2014, who unexpectedly passed away earlier this year.

Senior Colton Messick was the lone builder to go 3-0 at the event without a forfeit.  Messick defeated his Stevens opponent 11-0 in his opening bout, and won two nail-biters in his following two defeating Defiance 7-5 and Thomas More 6-5 in triple overtime.  He is now tied with Simmons leading the team with total wins, both at 18-5.

Other Notable Performances;

Ty Boyd was 2-0 with a major decision and a forfeit at 141 and 197 lbs.

Tyler Allen was 2-1 with a pin and a forfeit at 157 lbs.

Jeremy Mosley was 2-1 with a decision and a forfeit at 174 lbs.

Peter Cortapasso was 3-0 at HWT with a pin and two forfeits.

Next up:  Apprentice will compete at the Washington & Lee Duals in Lexington, VA on Monday Dec 18th.  They will be wrestling NCAA D3 teams Greensboro College, Southern Virginia University and McDaniel College.
