Builders Advance to Semi-Finals of Virginia Duals

The Apprentice Wrestling squad advanced to the semi-finals of the 39th Virginia Duals with a 29-16 victory over 4th seed Alderson Broaddus of West Virginia.  Apprentice will now face #1 seed Kutztown of Pennsylvania at 2pm Saturday afternoon. 

After a second period pin from Colton Messick at 125 lbs, Kolin Johnson would hold on to an 8-3 decision over Curtis Cox whom defeated Kolin in their last meeting to put the Builders up 9-0.  Colton improved to 24-7 on the season with 10 bonus point wins, while Kolin improves to 19-8.

At 141 lbs, Ty Boyd won his fifth straight bout with a first period pin over Cameron Ritchey.  Sophomore Tyler Allen recorded a 4-2 decision at 149 to extend the lead 18-0.

Tyler Bauer would put the first points on the board for the Battlers with a decision over Tristan Mabe at 157, but Chad Simmons fired back with a dominant 18-3 tech fall.

After a major decision, a forfeit and a decision for AB, heavyweight Peter Cortapasso recorded an eight second pin in the final bout to close out the dual.  Passo now has 12 pins on the season, the second most on the team behind Johnson at 13.
