Builders Drop to 6th at Virginia Duals

After advancing to the semi-finals with a win over 4th seed Alderson Broaddus Friday, Apprentice would drop three straight on Saturday to finish in 6th place.

Sophomore Kolin Johnson would be the lone Builder to win against eventual champion Kutztown in the 43-3 loss.

In the consolation bracket, a showdown between #1 and #2 NCWA teams would end in a 26-24 loss to in-conference rivals Liberty University.  Apprentice would go up 15-0 to start the dual with a pin from #1 Colton Messick at 125, a forfeit for #3 Johnson at 133, and 133 pound Trey Templeton would hold on to a 9-7 decision wrestling up against Charlie Hudson (#8 @ 149) at 141 lbs.

After a major decision loss at 149 lbs, Apprentice extended their lead 24-4 after a first period pin from #14 Tristan Mabe at 157, and a 2-1 riding time victory from #1 Chad Simmons at 165.  Simmons would be the last builder to win as Liberty won the last 5 bouts straight.

The 6th place match was a re-match from Fridays win over Alderson Broaddus, where Apprentice would go on to lose 35-12.  Messick and Simmons were the only Builders to win, both recording falls.

Next Up: Apprentice will be hosting the Builder Invitational at Kellam High School on Sunday (Jan 20).
