BUILDERS 3-0 DAY 1 OF NATIONALS DUALS

The Builder wrestling squad had a strong start to the 2020 NCWA National Duals. 

 
In the first round, Apprentice would upend Toledo 48-18 where they would win 5 of 7 contested bouts.  Colton Messick (125), David McElravy (174), Wes Sorey (184), Russ Pierce (235) and Peter Cortapasso (285) all recorded pins.
 
In the second round they would defeat conference rival East Carolina 37-18.  After a forfeit at 125, Kolin Johnson pinned #3 Rashun Lawrence for the second time in five days.  After dropping a pair of decisions, sophomore William Heath ground out a 9-1 major decision at 157 lbs.  Senior Jeremy Mosley returned from his extended hiatus to find a 4-1 decision at 197. 
 
In the final dual of the evening, Apprentice held on to a 33-18 win over 6th ranked Springfield Tech.  
 
After a 17-1 tech fall from Messick and pin from Johnson, Shalek Colon nearly unseated 1st ranked Marcos Mercado at 141.  After scoring the opening takedown, shalek would give up 10 unanswered points before finding a reversal and nearfall points in the closing seconds to lose 11-8.
 
After losing the next three bouts, McElravy shifted the momentum recorded a 14-1 major decision at 174 and remains undefeated in dual matches. 
 
After a decision from Sorey at 197, Mosley sealed the team win with a 5-1 decision and Springfield forfeited the final two bouts.
 
Lady Builder Erin Aragon was 2-1 on the day, recording a pin and a major decision.
