HAMPTON, VA. – Visiting Bloomsburg University scored a pair of runs in the eighth and ninth innings as they defeated the Apprentice School 11-7 in the opening game of the 2011 Builder Invitational at War Memorial Stadium.

The Huskies scored a pair of runs in the first as Joey Ianiero opened with a walk and scored on Brad Smith's triple to center.  Smith scored on a groundout from Howie Deemer for a 2-0 lead.  They pushed the lead to 6-0 in the second as Keith Meyer doubled in a pair, Ianiero later doubled in Meyer and eventually scored on a throwing error.

Apprentice School scored a run in the bottom of the second as Chris Scarola singled in Andrew Yonta who had walked.  Bloomsburg answered that with a run in the third as Gino Wise smashed a solo home run to left field to lead 7-1.

The Builders made things interesting in the fifth scoring five runs.  After an out, Chris Kennedy doubled to center and later scored as he stole home.  Josh Tuck singled and scored as Devorn Lake reached on a throwing error and scored on a throwing error.  Yonta doubled to left center and scored as Corey Gallaway doubled left field to make the score 7-5.  Gallaway scored on a Chris Scarola single to right field bringing the Builders to within a run at 7-6.

Bloomsburg scored in the eighth on RBI singles from Nickolas Eversole and Meyer to lead 9-6.  They plated another pair in the ninth on a two-run home run from Jerry Lloyd.  The Builders scored in a ninth as a Lake groundout scored Tuck who reached on an error.

Scarola and Tuck had a pair of hits for the Builders while Scarola drove in a pair of runs and Tuck scored a couple.  Daniel Lutz took the loss for the Builders throwing 1.2 innings and allowing six runs.

Apprentice School now will face NCAA Division II nationally-ranked Kutztown University in a noon start on Friday afternoon.
