BUENA VISTA, VA. – A frantic second half rally fell short in overtime on Saturday as homestanding Southern Virginia pulled away in the extra session for a 96-87 U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association win over the Apprentice School.

In a game that saw 10 ties and six lead changes, the Knights held a 71-61 lead with 5:24 left on an Isaac Jacobson layup.  Apprentice School then went on a 14-2 run over the next 3:01 to take a 75-73 lead on a Lavontae Thomas layup with 2:23 left.  The lead was tied three more times, as a Casey Nye jumper with 10 seconds left forced the extra session at 79-all.

Tevin Andrews drained a jumper at the 4:11 mark of overtime for the tenth tie of the day at 81-all.  From there, the Knights went on a 10-2 run over the next 2:42 to lead 91-83 on a Nye layup with 1:29 left.  Apprentice School could get no closer than six points on a Jay Melendez 3-pointer with 26 seconds left for a 93-87 margin.

Andrews was the leading scorer in the game with 21 points to pace five Builders in double figures.  Darrell Fenton had 16 points and eight rebounds, while Melendez and Johnnie Ferebee chipped in with 11 points and Thomas added 10.   SVU was topped by Anders Jacobson with 19 points , while Nye and Isaac Jacobson added 15, Jonathan Jacobson had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds and Seth Richins added 12.

Apprentice School will now travel to Elizabeth City, NC to face Mid-Atlantic Christian University on Tuesday night at 7 pm.  The Builders return home on Saturday at 2 pm to face the Knights in a rematch at Apprentice Gym.
