Golf finishes 8th at the USCAA National Championship

State College, PA – The Apprentice School Golf team completed their fall 2021 season this week with an 8th place finish at the USCAA National Championship in Pennsylvania.  The Builders continued their streak of making the National Tournament and, once again, proved that they have one of the top golf programs in the USCAA.  Despite being a small squad this season, all 4 golfers had an excellent showing, which helped propel them to their top 10 finish.

Day one saw David Grimm shoot a team high 78, which was also a season high for Apprentice.   He was followed by Ethan Flanders who finished with a score of 81, while Zach Welch carded an 84.  William Graves rounded out the Builders’ scoring, coming into the clubhouse with an 87.  On day two, the Builders continued their consistent play, with David Grimm, once again, leading the way with a 78, to finish in a tie for 19th place.  Ethan Flanders improved by two strokes from day one, finishing Tuesday with a score of 79, while William Graves turned in an 83.  Zach Welch finished the Apprentice scoring with an 88.

“I am very proud of our team on finishing 8th out of 22 teams,” said Head Coach Joey Maben.  “The team was able to shoot under 90 in both rounds, while Davey Grimm ended his career with a top 20 finish in a field of over 130 players.   In addition, Ethan Flanders won the long drive contest (305 yards) and William Graves earned Academic All-American Honors for the 2nd year.  I am very pleased with our hard work this season and look forward to playing in the spring”.
