Builders Finish Fourth in VaSID All-Sports Survey

NEWPORT NEWS - The Apprentice School Department of Athletics finished in fourth place in the Virginia Sports Information Directors All-Sports Survey, the association announced Wednesday morning.

The Builders finished the year with an overall record of 87-41 across all six sports, adding up to a .679 winning percentage. The 2022-23 season included a third place finish nationally by the golf team, a semifinal berth for men's basketball, multiple top finishes by wrestling, a berth in the USCAA National Tournament for women's basketball, a 9-1 football season that included a Neptune Bowl championship and a 28-16 season for baseball.

Washington & Lee finished atop the College Division with a .747 winning percentage, edging out Christopher Newport by nine percentage points. Randolph-Macon finished in third, just six percentage points better than Apprentice. Mary Washington was a distant fifth place at .614.

In each respective gender, the Builders were fourth overall with the women at a .652 winning percentage while the men totaled .686.

In the University Division, Virginia beat James Madison by just four percentage points.

VaSID names 44 all-state teams in 23 sports each year, as well as an Academic All-State squad and an all-sports champion in both the University and College Divisions. Membership in VaSID is open to all media relations professionals working at a university or conference in the state of Virginia.
