Scarola, Harding Named To CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams

Two Apprentice School baseball players were honored on Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors Association as they were named to the Academic All-District One College Division team.  Junior Chris Scarola and sophomore Zach Harding were named to the first team Academic All-District squad are now up for consideration on the Capital One Academic All-American team to be announced in late May.

The teams are divided into eight districts and are separated by NCAA Division I, II , III and College Division which includes NAIA schools, two-year schools and independents.  To be recognized you must have had at least a 3.3 grade point average and be a key contributor to their team.   Schools from Maine to North Carolina are included in College Division District One.

Scarola, a dimensional control tech apprentice from Williamsburg, VA, has seen his batting average jump by 145 points from his sophomore to junior season as he is third on the team with a .353 average.  He has had 14 multi-hit games, eight multi-RBI games and has had a 12-game hitting streak earlier in the season.  Currently he has had a hit in each of his last six games and has reached base in 15 straight games.  He had three hits against Danville CC and College of the Albemarle in the last two weeks.

Harding, an electrician apprentice from Spotsylvania, VA, has caught in all but four games this year and is currently batting .311 with a team best four home runs and is second on the team with 35 RBI.  He has had 10 multi-RBI games and 11 multi-hit games.  Harding drove in a season-best five runs going 3-fot-5 with a double and a triple against NCAA Division II Virginia State.

These are the first CoSIDA Academic All-District honorees for the baseball team since 2009 and mark the second time a pair of teammates have been recognized.  Counting today, seven Builders have been recognized by CoSIDA since 2004.
