Football Falls At Campbell 76-0

BUIES CREEK, N.C. -- C.J. Oates rushed for 139 yards and four touchdowns, scoring two in the first half and Jordan Cramer scored a pair of touchdowns in the first half as homestanding Campbell University defeated the Apprentice School 76-0 on Saturday in front of 3,566 at Ed Gore Field at Barker-Lane Stadium.

The scoring binge began with Oates capping off a 70-yard scoring drive with a five-yard run with 12:21 left in the first quarter.  That quarter saw the Camels explode for three touchdowns in a 92 second span to close out the scoring in a 34-0 first quarter lead.

After giving up a touchdown early in the second quarter, the Builders broke into Campbell territory in the second quarter as Louis Norwood picked off a Braden Smith pass and returned it 27 yards to the Campbell 49.  That drive ended in a blocked punt that Campbell recovered and scored on a Jordan Cramer to take a 48-0 lead with 3:34 left.

Oates went on a scoring binge with three straight touchdowns on runs of two, three and one-yard to push the advantage to 69-0 with 5:49 left in the third.

The Builders had their deepest possession into the red-zone at the Campbell 19 with the benefit of a roughing the passer penalty on Campbell.  Offensively the Builders stalled in the red-zone and were stopped on downs.  Later on the Builders' Joe Creek recovered a fumble on the Campbell 13, but a fourth down attempt ended in a sack to stop the scoring drive.

Johnathan Jones was the leading tackler for the second straight game with 12 while Kyell Collins added 11 and Marlon Lane with nine for the Builders.  The team returns home to start their home slate on September 17 with a 1pm kickoff against Greensboro College.
