Seventh-Ranked Wolverines Top Builders 55-0

NEWPORT NEWS, VA. – Senior quarterback Shane McSweeny threw for two touchdowns and junior running back Askia Jahad ran for a pair of scores as seventh-ranked Wesley College defeated The Apprentice School 55-0 at a very windy Apprentice Field on Saturday.

Wesley's first possession was a 26-yard, four-play drive which were all runs by Jahad who scored on a two-yard plunge with 10:57 left for an early 7-0 advantage.  The Builders defense stepped up after that and forced a pair of punts along with stopping a Wesley (8-1) drive down on the Apprentice (2-7)15 and forced a 32-yard field goal attempt that was missed in a 25 mile per hour wind late in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the seventh-ranked Wolverines exploded for 20 points in a 2:55 span to jump out 27-0.  McSweeney threw his first touchdown pass to Steven Koudossou with 8:17 left to lead 13-0.  On the Builders next play, Davevis Howard stepped in front of a Paul Morgan pass and returned it 51 yards down the sidelines for a 20-0 lead.  After stopping the Builders, Jahad closed the first half scoring on a 24-yard run to lead 27-0 with 5:22 left.

The second half saw McSweeny connect with Sean McAndrew on a five-yard scoring pass after recovering a fumble on the Builder 21 and Tyler Weedon recovered a blocked punt in the end zone for a 40-0 lead.  A pair of fourth quarter scoring runs put the final at 55-0.

Apprentice School held the high-powered Wesley offense to a season low 270 yards as Jahad paced the rushing with 51 yards and McSweeny threw for 83 yards.  The Builders gained 77 yards on the game as freshman Charles Broadus ran for 20 yards.  Fellow freshman Jonathan Whelan threw for 52 yards in relief of sophomore Paul Morgan.  Sophomore Donta Steward caught six passes for 71 yards to lead the receivers.  Junior Aaron Finley topped the defense with eight tackles for Apprentice, while Jeff Morgan topped the Wolverines with nine tackles.

The Builders close out the season on November 12 in Babson Park, Florida when they face Webber International at 1 pm.
