Men's Basketball Improves to 2-0 in NSAC Play with Win over CIC

NEWPORT NEWS - The Apprentice School men's basketball team rebounded after Thursday's loss to take down Central International Saturday in New South Athletic Conference play, 87-80.

The Builders opened the game on a 16-5 run, including scoring the first seven points of the game. CIC did not fold, though, trimming the lead to 21-19 midway through the first half before Apprentice pulled away slightly to a 34-24 score with four minutes left until halftime.

The Cardinals continued to hang around, however, using an 11-0 run to take their first lead of the game at 52-51 with 13:57 to play, but the Builders answered and went back-and-forth with CIC until retaking the lead for good after being tied at 70-70.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Shawn Eley led Apprentice with 21 points, while Karree Smith added 19 off the bench. Adrion Wall put up 18 points as well.
  • Eley also added a game-high 15 rebounds to earn a double-double. Jayden Eason finished one point shy of a double-double with nine points and 10 boards.
  • The Builders had 54 points in the paint, compared to just 20 for CIC.

The Builders start a four-game road swing with a pair of exhibitions next weekend against two Division II opponents, starting with UVA-Wise on Saturday.
