Hollenbeck Tabbed as Men's Basketball Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator

NEWPORT NEWS - The Apprentice School head men's basketball coach Evan Kee has named Barry Hollenbeck his newest assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, joining Michael Gainey and Brandon Joyner on this year's coaching staff.

Hollenbeck comes to Apprentice after having spent 20 years in the United States Coast Guard, advancing to E-7 within 10 years of enlistment as a Marine Science Technician. He was selected as a Recruit Company Commander and a Section Commander before retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer to pursue a career in coaching basketball.

Hollenbeck's most recent basketball coaching stint was at Deep Creek High School in Chesapeake as the Associate Head Coach while also coaching at Empire Sports AAU as well. He founded and coached Hawaii Legends AAU in 2016.

"I first want to thank Coach Tim Sparks for his dedication to our program and school the last several years," said Kee. "Recruiting is the lifeblood of collegiate athletics, and we knew we needed to hire a strong relationship-builder and communicator. Coach Hollenbeck fills that role for us and is a great addition to our staff and has already hit the ground running. He is a tireless worker that will ensure that we continue recruiting and developing high-level individuals to our program. We are excited to have him on our team."

Hollenbeck graduated from the United States Sports Academy in July 2022 with Summa Cum Laude Honors with a Bachelor's degree in Sports Science with a Sports Coaching Major.
