Apprentice Golf Completes 2-Day Match Play Event in Kentucky

Danville, KY – The Apprentice Golf Team wrapped up two days of match play at the Old Bridge Golf Club in Danville, KY and came away with Coach Maben feeling his team is improving every time they get on the course.  "We played much better today and see more improvement as we continue to get additional rounds in".

On Day 1, The Builders faced off against NCAA Division II member Kentucky State University in 4 match play matches.  Junior, William Graves put up a strong fight and took his match to the 18th hole but would drop the match at 1 down.  Unfortunately, the rest of the team was unable to break through in their matches and Apprentice found themselves down 0-4.  Day 2 the team competed against host school Campbellsvile-Harrodsburg and saw Graves, again, take his match to the 18th but eventually fell 2&1. Freshman, Ethan Flanders would break through for the Builders and win his match, which gave them so positive momentum on the day.  Senior David Grimm capitalized on that momentum by making 5 birdies in his round, but would fall on the 17th hole, while Junior Zach Welch showed strong improvement from day 1, but lost his match on the 15th hole.

The Builders will return to action next week as the play host to Virginia Wesleyan University on Wednesday September 15th and Thursday September 16th.  The event will be played at Sleepy Hole Golf Course in Suffolk, VA and results can be found on www.gobuilders.com.
