Lady Builders Fall 61-58 At Bennett

GREENSBORO, NC - Kennetta Johnson hit three free throws in the last 14 seconds to seal the victory for homestanding Bennett College as they defeated the Apprentice School 61-58 on Friday night.

The Lady Builders held a 25-21 advantage with 3:56 left in the first half on a jumper from Jasmine Pringle before the host Belles caught fire - in particular ShaRonda LaBoard.  She scored 12 of her 16 points in a 17-2 run to close the half - all on 3-pointers.

In the second half, the Lady Builders trailed 48-38 with 11:55 left on a Kennetta Johnson jumper before they started to claw their way back.  A 15-5 flurry over the next 7:13 forced the fifth tie of the night at all on a 3-pointer from Ashley Johnson with 4:42 left.  She hit a free throw with 34 seconds left to force the final tie at 58-all.  From there, Kennetta Johnson hit one of two free throws with 14 seconds left and hit both free throws with four seconds left for the win.

Shameka Warren scored 20 points and hauled in a game-high 14 rebounds for the Lady Builders while Pringle and Jasmine Gerald added 11 points each.  Johnson paced Bennett with 22 points to lead four in double figures.

Apprentice School now returns home to face NCAA Division II University of District of Columbia on Wednesday night at 6 pm.
