Quick Start Lifts St. Paul's Over Apprentice School 77-51

NEWPORT NEWS, VA. - The visiting St. Paul's Tigers scored the first 11 points of the game and defeated The Apprentice School 77-51 on Wednesday night.

Juantale Cook scored the first seven of those 11 points as the Tigers raced out to an 11-0 lead on a DeAudra Brown layup with 16:45 left.  The Lady Builders scratched the scoreboard first on a jumper from Tamara Davis 31 seconds later.

St. Paul's pushed the lead to 21-8 on an Allukeshia Guy layup with 10:06 left before the Lady Builders made one big run.  Apprentice School started on a 14-6 spurt to cut the deficit to 27-22 on a pair of free throws from Denise Hamilton with 5:03 left.  The Tigers then closed the half on a 15-1 run to take a 42-23 lead at halftime.

Hamilton was the leading scorer for Apprentice School with season-highs of 16 points and eight rebounds, while Tyisha Battle added 11 points.

Apprentice School (3-4) now starts a four-game road swing with a trip to Cheyney University (Pa.) on Saturday for a 1 pm tipoff.
