Lady Builders Fall 65-60 To Wesley

 

NEWPORT NEWS, VA. - Junior Tyisha Battle scored a career-high 25 points and hauled in a game-high 12 rebounds as The Apprentice School took a lead with two minutes left but fell short in its comeback falling 65-60 to Wesley College on Saturday.

The first half saw the Lady Builders open with a flurry taking an early 8-3 lead on a free throw from Battle with 15:20 remaining.  Wesley slowly worked back into the contest and took its first lead on a pair of Jasmine Barksdale free throws with 7:38 left to lead 11-10.  The Wolverines worked the lead into a 26-21 advantage as Battle hit a free throw with 49 seconds left in the half, for what turned into the halftime score.

In the second half, the Wolverines pushed the lead to 50-41 with 9:33 left on a Jazmine Miller jumper.  Apprentice School then went on a 19-7 run over the next 7:48 to lead 60-57 on a stickback by LaTorya Grimes with 1:45 left.  Those were the last points for the Lady Builders as Wesley hit six straight from the line to ice the win.

Tamara Davis scored 13 points with six rebounds for Apprentice School, while Shameka Warren added 10 points and five boards.  Barksdale paced Wesley (3-5) with 16 points, while Miller added 14 and Allison Beddia chipped in 10.

The Lady Builders return to action on December 30 with a 6 pm home game with NCAA Division II Chowan University.
