IN BRIEF: The game came remained close as neither team could distance itself, but a pivotal 3-ball from Courtney White late and the team's defense holding the Shock to just 9 points in the final quarter allowed the Lady Builders to earn the win on their home court.

ON THE COURT

• Washington Adventist opened the scoring with a jumper at 8:34, but the Apprentice School responded with a 7-0 run. An Olivia Turner layup at 7:34 cut the lead to 7-4. The teams would then match each other's 3-pointers as White connected from long-range at 7:16 and Natalie Harrison answered at 6:46.
• A pair of Chauntel Dunbar free throws and an Ylexzis Traeger layup helped push the Builder lead to 16-9, but the Shock closed the gap with a jumper and a second Harrison 3-pointer. Back-to-back layups from Quanisha Bruce and Jessica Neighbors gave the Lady Builders a 20-14, but with 2:01 to play, the Shock started a 6-2 run to close out the opening quarter.
• Washington Adventist tied things up at 22-22 with an early layup and would take the lead with a pair of Emily Piazza 3-pointers. Bruce would then make a basket and Traeger converted a pair of free throw attempts, but the Shock couldn't miss the deep ball as Piazza made another 3-pointer and teammate Demyra Selby followed with one of her own.
• Traeger joined in on the 3-point action, trimming the Shock lead to 34-31 with 2:12 to play in the half. The teams would trade baskets and Selby would make a free throw with :01 on the clock as the Shock took a 37-33 lead into the break.
• The Apprentice School came into the 3rd quarter with some energy, taking back control of the game as a Hayley Marshall 3-pointer at the 6:24 mark capped off a 9-2 run.
• Washington Adventist would not go away, however, and would tie the score at 44-44 and 46-46. Jeria Brown-McDaniel then made a pair of free throws to give the Shock 48-46 lead and White would make a free throw of her own to end the 3rd with Washington Adventist up 48-47.
• Neither team could gain separation early in the 4th, with ties at 50-50, and 52-52. The Shock pulled ahead 55-54 after a pair of successful Harrison free throws, but Kenya Wilkerson made a jumper and White made a crucial 3-pointer from the corner with :19 left in the game to put the Apprentice School up 59-55.
• Harrison drove baseline for a layup on the Shock's next possession, but Washingon Adventist would have to foul and Traeger would step to the charity stripe and shoot 1-for-2 to give the Lady Builders a 60-57 lead with :10 remaining. After the Shock called a timeout, Piazza got a desperation 3-pointer off with :01 on the clock from just inside the center court logo, but the shot fell short and Wilkerson grabbed the rebound as the Apprentice School picked up the win.

BEHIND THE BOXSCORE

• Traeger recorded an 18-point, 11-rebound double-double to pace the team. Wilkerson was a board shy of a double-double with 13 points and 9 rebounds. Wilkerson, named the USCAA Division I Women's Basketball Player of the Week, also added 6 assists and 4 steals. White chipped in 9 points and Bruce added 8 points.
• The Apprentice School shot 34.4% (21-of-61) from the field, 29.4% (5-of-17) from beyond the arc, and 68.4% (13-of-19) from the free-throw line.
• The Lady Builders held a slight advantage in rebounding (42-41), committed fewer turnovers (16-20), scored more points off turnovers (18-13), scored more points in the paint (26-22), and scored more fastbreak points (10-2).
• The Apprentice School scored 9 points off the bench, compared to just 4 points for Washington Adventist.
• The game featured 8 ties and 7 lead changes.

NEXT UP

The Lady Builders welcome the Elizabeth City State University (N.C.) Lady Vikings this upcoming Saturday, Decemeber 12th for a 2 p.m. game. ECSU is 0-5 and will play at Barton College (N.C.) on December 9th. The team won a home exhibition 86-36 against Virginia University-Lynchburg on November 14th.

Fans attending Saturday's game will be able to park on the 3rd deck of the parking garage located on the corner of 31st Street and West Avenue adjacent to the south side of the Apprentice School. Parking attendants will be located on the west side of the garage as well as around the perimeter of the school. Additional directional signage will be in place to lead you to the garage.
