Collins Announces Additions to Women's Basketball Coaching Staff

NEWPORT NEWS - The Apprentice School head women's basketball coach Courtney Collins has announced three new additions to her coaching staff for the 2023-24 basketball season. She brings on three new assistant coaches: Ieshia Small, Ashonti Sweat and Duane Jackson.

Small comes to Apprentice after playing five seasons internationally, including in China, Hungary, Ukraine and Poland. She averaged over 14 points per game in her career as a professional. She graduated from Maryland in 2018 and has also been an assistant coach for 17u Nike EYBL for Essence Girls since 2018. Small was a former McDonald's All-American in high school and won two Big 10 regular season championships during her career as a Terrapin.

Sweat has previously served as the assistant basketball coach at Bruton High School for the last three seasons and has also served at Phoebus High School during his coaching tenure. He has also been part of the Newport News Sheriff's Office as a Deputy Sheriff.

Jackson comes to the Builder program after having served as the boys varsity coach at Windsor High School. He has also served time at Woodside, Bethel and Hampton Christian. He is also a production planner and scheduler for Huntington Ingalls as well.
