LEXINGTON, VA. -- In a four-team invitational hosted by Washington & Lee University on Saturday, the Apprentice School had eight wrestlers go 2-0 in the event. No team scores were kept and schools were guaranteed only two matches per wrestler.
Freshman Marcus Chevres won both his bouts at 125 pounds facing Ben Ersing of host Washington & Lee. The Norfolk native scored a pair of major decisions 11-2 and 18-4 in his bouts.
William Sexton took both his bouts at 133 pounds via decisions. In his first match he defeated Alex Vergara of Longwood 9-5 and then the Virginia Beach native knocked off Matt Sears of Washington & Lee 8-4.
A pair of wrestlers went 2-0 for the Builders at 165 pounds. Freshman Anthony Damico won by fall in 1:57 over Sidney Morris of Longwood in 1:57 and then defeated Dallin Rust of Southern Virginia 18-9. Fellow freshman Will Harcum defeated Rob Terrin of Washington & Lee by an 18-9 major decision and had the fastest fall for the Builders defeating Jason Lowe of Southern Virginia in 18 seconds.
At 174 pounds sophomore Austen Damico scored a pair of wins defeating Andrew Rivas of Longwood by a fall in 1:41 and knocking off Eric Veres of W&L by a 17-5 major decision. Freshman Charles Mills recorded a fall in 46 seconds over Ethan Huey of W&L and defeated Jon Brown also of W&L 7-4.
Sophomore Daniel Hare won a pair of matches at 184 pounds defeating Russ Weems of W&L by a fall in 2:29 and defeated teammate Quinten Bowling by a fall in 4:26. Joining him in the two falls on the day club was freshman James Lipford at 197 pounds. He scored falls over James Green of Longwood (2:19) and Zak Colangelo of W&L (2:43).
At heavyweight, senior Cecil Lee wrestled John Christopher of W&L twice scoring a fall in 3:57 and an 8-4 decision in the second match.
Next up for the Builders will be the Ursinus Fall Brawl on November 16.
