Nine Builder Wrestlers advance to Day 2 of New Standard Invitational

York, PA - After the first session of action at the 12th annual New Standard Corp Invitational, nine builders advanced to Saturday.

Two Apprentices advanced to the quarterfinals, as high school teammates Bruno Alves and Russ Pierce each saw their first action of the season at 125 and 285 lbs.  Unseeded Alves started the day with a 16-1 tech fall over Averett, followed by a first period pin over the 8th seed from TCNJ.  After a first round bye, fifth seeded Pierce notched a 4-0 decision over host York.

Senior heavyweight Peter Cortapasso found a second period pin over John's Hopkins in the first round before falling to the second seed from Averett.  Freshman Matthew Henson stumbled in his first bout, but bounced back with a 47 second pin over York in the consolation bracket.

Wrestling begins at 9 am Saturday. The Builders will look to find their first finalist in this stacked event.
