Builders Down East Carolina on Senior Day

Newport News, VA - The Apprentice Wrestling team hosted conference rivals East Carolina Saturday, honoring the Builders Seniors on Senior Day.  Several marquis match-ups went down, featuring multiple top-ranked wrestlers from both squads.

Senior Kris Smith collected a forfeit at 125 lbs.  4th ranked 125 Bruno Alves bumped up to 133, upsetting defending National Champion and top ranked Rashun Lawrence 13-11. Bruno is now 11-1 on the season, his only loss to a ranked NCAA opponent. 
 
At 141, fellow senior Raekwon Jackson dominated his bout start to finish, recording a 13-4 major decision, followed by a pair of forfeit for Jordan Robins and Darek Dabbs at 149 and 157.
 
After a decision win for ECU at 165, 9th ranked Matthew Henson notched a close 7-6 win over 4th ranked Adam Aldridge to extend the Builders lead 28-3.
 
ECU would pick up 6 points with an injury default at 184, then Sophomore Andrew Edens notched his 3rd pin of the season at 197 and Caleb Hartung found a dominant 11-0 win at 235.
 
The final bout of the day featured a pair of top ranked heavyweights. Peter Cortapasso and Thomas Hudson of ECU were slated to meet in the blood round at nationals two seasons ago, however it never happened. #5 Hudson was able to grind out a 4-0 decision over #2 Passo to close the final team score to 38-13.
 
Next up; The Builders will travel to James Madison tomorrow for the State Supremacy Duels.
