Wrestling finishes as National Runner-Up at NCWA Tournament

Allen, TX - Despite a difficult final session, the Apprentice Wrestling squad managed to hold off Grays Harbor to stay in 2nd place after day three.  The team also managed a first ever Collegiate Cup runner-up trophy, awarded for a combined men's and women's team scores, as Erin Mosley managed to place 11th of 26 teams by herself.

Unfortunately, all five Builders in the finals lost in their championship bouts.

Bruno Alves (125), Zach Ortega (141) and Peter Cortapasso (285) each earned their first All-American honors, finishing in 2nd place.

Erin Mosley (123) and Russ Pierce (235) both earned their second trip to the podium, also finishing in 2nd.

Both Builders in the consolation bracket won their final bouts. At 133 lbs, Dillon Messick found yet another come from behind win over Michael Hazelton of Macomb CC. After getting put to his back early, Dill found himself in a tight cradle but was able to reverse the position for a pin of his own.  The 5th place finish is his first All-American honors.

Raekwon Jackson avenged his conference finals loss over Garrett Good of Liberty in the consolation semis 13-7. In his final match he would defeat Texas A&M for the second time to secure bronze at 141 lbs. Rae is now a two time All-American.

The silver lining; the majority of this young team will be next season.
