Wrestling Downs Marymount, Sessoms Wins Three at Regional Duals

ARLINGTON, Va. - The Apprentice School wrestling squad hit the road this weekend for their final away dual meet of the season. Apprentice stopped host Marymount University, 37-9, and wrestle several extra matches in lieu of a scheduled second dual against Johns Hopkins.

Lady Builder Raya Sessoms also saw some action, traveling to James Madison for the NCWA East Coast Regional Duals. Raya went 3-1 on the day, only falling to top-ranked Maile Ka-ahanui of Liberty. None of her three wins escaped the first period, all by way of pin. She is now 8-4 on the season, and 7-1 against NCWA competition.

The Builders won five of seven contested bouts in the win over the inaugural squad from Marymount. The dual featured a trio of rematches from last weekend's Builder invitational. After a pair of forfeits at 125 and 133, Jordan Robins faced a rematch from last weekend's 141 pound championship bout against Mateo Hernandez. Dropping a decision to Hernandez back in December, Jordan closed out their trilogy this season with another close 4-2 decision to put Apprentice up 15-0.

At 149, Zach Ortega wrestled a rematch from the semifinals last weekend, this time finding a second period fall over Lorenzo Coleman to extend the lead. After a pin for Marymount at 157, Apprentice reeled off two more wins with Ethan Baker finding a 15-4 major decision at 165, and Landon Kissell bumped up to 174 hanging on to a close 5-3 decision. With a decision win from Marymount at 184, Garrison Champigny closed out the final contested bout at 197 winning another close 4-2 decision. Peter Cortapasso received a forfeit at heavyweight.

In the extra matches prior to the Johns Hopkins/Marymount dual, Apprentice recorded three more wins. Freshman Christian Duke found a pin at the 3:57 mark over Hopkins in his very first collegiate match before falling to Marymount in his second. Olgers hung on to win a high scoring 12-10 decision over the starting 125 from Johns Hopkins in his only contested bout of the weekend. Cortapasso recorded his 12th pin of the season in the final bout.

With his two wins Saturday, Cortapasso stands at 99 career wins. He could potentially cross the century mark on Senior Day during the February 3 home dual against East Carolina.
