Builders in 3rd Place after Day One of NCWA Nationals

Allen, TX - Seven Builders advanced to the quarterfinals after the second session of wrestling Thursday, one win shy of a guaranteed top-six finish at the NCWA National Championships. 

 
Bruno Alves continued his tear through the 125 lb division, with a dominant first period pin over Springfield Tech.  Bruno will face Carlos Dewinter of Penn State WC in the quarters, whom he defeated by tech fall in early February. 
 
At 133, top seeded Dillon Messick came back from an early deficit to decision UNLV 5-2. Dill will face Jeremy Roberts of Grays Harbor to secure his first All-American honors.
 
Both Builders are still contending for gold at 141 lbs. Zach Ortega won another hard fought decision over Ferris State 6-4, while Raekwon Jackson stopped his Texas A&M foe with a 7-3 decision of his own. 
 
Jordan Robins is still on the hunt for a title at 149, stopping Central Michigan WC with a 8-0 major decision. Jordan will face 2nd seeded Joseph Pecatis of Penn State WC for a berth in the quarters. 
 
Apprentice big men Russ Pierce and Peter Cortapasso advanced at 235 and 285. Russ recorded his second first period fall of the tournament, this time over Alabama. He will face 6th seeded Shawn Coniff of Springfield Tech. Passo won a conservative 5-2 decision over the 7th seed from Texas A&M. He will face 2nd seeded Jayson Roy if Michigan WC for a chance at his first trip to the podium.
 
Six Builders are still alive in the consolation bracket with the possibility to fight back for 3rd place.
 
Landon Kissell at 157 lbs.
AJ Deutel at 165 lbs.
Andrew Edens at 184 lbs.
Billy Ott at 197 lbs.
Caleb Hartung at 197 lbs.
 
Liberty University still leads the team race with 62.5 points, followed by Grays Harbor at 50 and Apprentice with 48.5.
 
Session 3 begins at 9am central Friday morning.
