Wrestling Remains in Second After Session Three with Six Semifinalists

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - Despite several individual setbacks, the Apprentice School wrestling team had a stellar third session to tie Liberty with 105 points. Bellarmine University took the lead with 106.

Six Builders secured a berth in the semifinals, earning automatic All-American honors. Six additional wrestlers advanced in the consolation brackets, needing one more win to for a place on the podium.

125 pounder Bruno Alves continued to dominate with another quick 18-0 tech fall over Rowan. Alves will face Donte Mininno of Liberty for a rematch of last year's championship finals.

Dillon Messick is now a two time All-American at 133 with a clutch 3-0 decision over Ohio State. Messick will face fourth seeded Michael Gonzalez of Springfield Tech for a chance for the finals.

Zach Ortega had a dominant win in his quarterfinal match with a second period fall over Grand Valley. 

Both 165 pound Builders extended their hot streaks earnings their first All-American honors. Ethan Baker won a back-and-forth battle with Ohio State winning 8-7. Landon Kissell had the biggest upset win for the team, knocking off second seeded David Over of Liberty 8-7.

Heavyweight Peter Cortapasso is the last semifinalist after finding another first period fall over Grand Valley. Cortapasso will square off with third seeded Thad Huff of Bellarmine this evening. 

Remaining Builders competing for in the session four consolations include: 125 - Caleb Olgers; 141 - Jordan Robins; 184 - Matthew Henson; 197 - Caleb Hartung; 235 - Russ Pierce; and HWT - DJ Uribes.
