Starting the top five games of the 2012-13 athletic year, the Lady Builders return with a rebound weekend in the 2013 Martin Luther King Classic.
After a rough trip to New York where the Lady Builders lost three games in a weekend, they returned home to start a home stretch with the annual Martin Luther King Classic. They opened the event on January 19 facing Berkeley College. The Knights, who knocked off Apprentice School 65-61 to close the New York swing, proved for 27 minutes that the first win wasnt a fluke as they held a 48-43 lead with 13:18 left.
From that point, the Lady Builders went on a run for the record books as they exploded for the next 33 points and nearly shutout Berkeley to end the game. A 3-pointer with 74 seconds left prevented Berkeley from being shutout as the Lady Builders snapped an eight-game losing skid with a 76-51 win.
Two days later, the Lady Builders got to take another piece of revenge from New York in facing Briarcliffe College. After losing by 31 points a week earlier, the Lady Builders used an early 13-3 run en route to a 68-52 win over Briarcliffe. Danita Whitaker had 14 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Lady Builders as a harassing defense forced 29 Briarcliffe turnovers.
